OptionVue 5 - Upgrade Features in v1.51 (released 6/26/01)

1. Support for the new M3 Data Server (from MarketStream) was added. Support for the older generation UMDS was dropped. Warning: Futures options might be problematic with the M3 for a while. Until MarketStream settles the symbology for these, it may take extra work on the user’s part changing symbols in OptionVue to make prices come in properly.

2. Users can now have open position gain/loss include previously realized gains/losses from associated positions. For example, an ongoing stock position that once had a covered call associated with it can have the realized gain/loss from the now-closed covered call be lumped in with the stock, changing the stock’s cost basis and its unrealized gain/loss. Note that this is a switchable mode. It is off by default. To switch it on, click the new checkbox in the Account Information screen called “G/L to include previously realized G/L’s”. The mode setting is account-specific.

When the mode is on, the program automatically finds any closed positions that overlapped (in time) with existing (open) positions, and would have been considered “grouped” with the existing positions using the standard grouping rules (i.e. having identical letters in the Recon field of the Transaction Log).

Any realized gains/losses so derived would affect the Gain/Loss field in the summary section of the Matrix, the entire Graphic Analysis, the P/L in Detailed Analysis (off Graphic Analysis), and four columns in the open positions section of Account Status. They do not affect any fields in the summary section of Account Status, nor do they affect any of the Portfolio Manager Reports in any way.

The Account Status window has a new column parameter available for display, called “Prev Realized G/L”, to show what the program is computing. Three previously existing column parameters are adjusted appropriately when the mode is on. These are Original Cost / Proceeds, Gain / Loss, and Original Price.

Graphic Analysis shows “Prev Realized G/L $__” in the position summary box at the top to show that the program is computing and including this in the analysis. Likewise the Detailed Analysis off the Graphic Analysis includes an extra line item that says “Previously Realized G/L $__”. In the Matrix, an asterisk appears next to the Gain / Loss field in the summary section when that number includes a previously realized gain / loss.

3. In the Quotes Display, parameter Base Code (rather useless parameter) was replaced with Smallest Tick (only slightly more useful).

4. The Comm Settings button was re-instated on the Update Asset Files dialog.

5. For the sake of using Portfolio Manager in BackTrader mode, the program (as of 1.50) was made to ignore all future-dated transactions in the Transaction Log. However, this was causing the early Expire Options operation, which enters Xpr transactions in the Log with a future date (the options’ expiration date), to not be honored until the options’ expiration date arrived. So we changed the program to make it honor future-dated Xpr transactions.
